Short codes are randomly generated (not sequential), so nobody can guess another user's link by incrementing a number, and the character set skips look-alikes like 0/O and 1/l/I so a link is easy to retype correctly from a screenshot or a printed flyer.
When a short link actually helps
Short links earn their keep in a handful of situations. Instagram and TikTok bios only allow one clickable link, so a short one is easier to read aloud or type from a screenshot — pair it with NoloBioLink if you need to share several links from one bio slot. Printed material — flyers, packaging, business cards — can't include a 200-character affiliate URL, but it can include six memorable characters. QR codes get denser and harder to scan as the encoded text grows, so shortening the URL first keeps the QR code simple and reliable at small print sizes. And SMS or chat apps that count against a character limit benefit from every byte you save.
What we deliberately don't do
This tool does not insert its own tracking pixel into your link, does not log or sell click data to advertisers, and does not show an ad or a countdown page before redirecting. Safety and the "+" preview
Every destination URL is checked before a short link is created: only public http:// and https:// addresses are accepted, links can't point at private networks, localhost, or embed login credentials in the URL itself, and a short link can't redirect back into another short link on this site. Limits worth knowing
Up to 10 short links can be created per hour from the same network — enough for normal use, and there to keep the service usable for everyone rather than a spam target. A destination URL can be at most 2048 characters. Because there's no passcode or account tied to a link, a short link can't be edited or deleted after creation — if you need that later, the "Recently created on this device" list above is stored only in your browser, so keep the tab or a note if you'll need the link again. If you need to change a destination after the fact, the workaround is simply to create a new short link and swap it in wherever the old one was shared.
Why the redirect is a 302, and why it's not indexed
Short links use a temporary (302) redirect rather than a permanent one, on purpose: a permanent redirect gets cached by browsers and search engines, which means a link we later have to disable for abuse would keep working in caches that already saved the old destination. A 302 doesn't get cached that way, so disabling a link takes effect everywhere within about a minute. Short links are also excluded from search engine indexing entirely (they're marked noindex and blocked in robots.txt) — that's standard practice for every reputable link shortener, since a shortened link is a pass-through to someone else's content, not a page of ours that should show up in search results.
