Start construction quotationAbout Quote a job with a deposit built in
A construction quotation sets out the scope, materials, and labour cost for a job before work begins, and — unlike an invoice — it isn't a request for payment for work already done. Because materials often need to be bought upfront, most construction quotes ask for a deposit before the job starts and set an expiry date so the price isn't held open indefinitely against rising material costs.
List materials and labour as separate line items so the client can see what they're paying for. Turn on the deposit line and set a percentage (30% is typical for trade work), set how long the quote stays valid, and add any terms about material price changes.
- Materials and labour itemised separately, not combined into one lump sum
- A deposit amount or percentage required before work starts
- A validity period after which the quoted price may no longer apply
- A clear description of the scope of work covered by this price
- Payment terms for the remaining balance once work is complete
Note that material prices are subject to change if the quote isn't accepted within the validity window — that one line protects you from a client sitting on a quote for months and then expecting the original price after a supplier price increase.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much deposit should I ask for on a construction job?
20–30% is common for smaller jobs where materials are bought upfront; larger jobs sometimes use staged payments instead of a single deposit. Set whatever percentage or flat amount fits the job in the deposit field.
Why does the quote need an expiry date?
Material and labour costs can move between when you quote and when a client accepts. A validity window (this template defaults to 30 days) protects you from being held to an old price indefinitely.
Can I convert this into an invoice once the client accepts?
Yes — every saved quotation has a Convert to invoice button that carries over the parties, line items, currency, tax, and discount into a new invoice, ready for its own invoice number and due date.
Is my quotation data uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything — the form, the PDF generation, and the saved copies — runs locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Is this template really free to use?
Yes. There's no signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many quotations you download.
