About PNG to AVIF Converter
AVIF is the most aggressive of the mainstream web formats — built on the AV1 video codec, it routinely beats WebP by another 20–30% and can land at a tenth of the original PNG. It supports a full alpha channel and wide colour, so graphics and cutouts survive the trip. Chrome, Firefox and Safari 16 and up all decode it natively.
Drop up to 15 PNG files (5MB each) and click Convert. AVIF encoding is genuinely heavy computation, so expect this to take noticeably longer than a WebP or JPG batch — that is your CPU working, not a stalled upload. Download individually or as a ZIP once the queue clears.
Serve AVIF through a picture element with a WebP or PNG fallback rather than swapping it in wholesale; a small slice of traffic still runs on browsers and in-app webviews that cannot decode it. AVIF is also weakest on the images PNG is strongest at — very small graphics with hard edges and few colours sometimes come out no smaller, occasionally larger, because the codec's overhead outweighs what it can save. Check the byte counts in the results before you commit. Large illustrations and photographic PNGs are where it wins outright.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does AVIF keep my PNG's transparency?
Yes, AVIF fully supports an alpha channel, so transparent areas convert correctly while typically producing a much smaller file than the source PNG.
Is AVIF supported everywhere PNG is?
AVIF is supported by all current major browsers, but some older browsers, email clients, and third-party tools don't yet render it. Keep a PNG or WebP fallback if you need guaranteed compatibility.
When is PNG to AVIF worth it?
Best for hero images, illustrations, and other large graphics where load time matters — AVIF often shrinks these dramatically more than PNG or even WebP at similar visual quality.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All conversion runs locally in your browser.
